Pain medication for serious leg pain

Postby kacki » Fri Sep 01, 2006 9:27 pm

My Dr. said that neither pain meds nor muscle relaxants will work for this kind of leg pain( even tho he denies that the zocor would do this). I mean, I'm not a druggie, trying to get a quick fix. I would just like to have something for when the pain in the muscles get really bad. I guess my question is, has any one else been told that. If so, is there anything else I can do. I do have an appointment next week in Indy, with a Rheumatologist, Naturopath. Hopefully, she can do something for me since my GP acts like I'm a hypocondriac. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, except, maybe, for him for a week!! I have had about every symtom that there is for this "disease". The others all come and go, except for the ache and pain in my thighs, calfs and heels. It is constant, sometimes not as painful as other times.
Thx for listening to me ramble on.
Kathy P :) By the way, I'm newbie here, so "Hi" to all.

Muscle pain

Postby Ray Holder » Sat Sep 02, 2006 1:59 am

Hi Kathy
You really should try some L Carnitine, see some of the previous postings, the statins cause a deficiency of this substance, it has two functions, firstly to escort fat as fiel into your muscles, and then to take the waste products away, pain comes because these are not removed, I believe it is then called lactic acidosis. The medical term for the problem is Secondary Carnitine Deficiency, fairly rare before statins arrived on the scene.

Carnitine is very quick acting, some have had relief in a few hours.

It worked for me less than an hour after taking the first dose!

L-Carnitine

Hey guys thx. for the info. Can this be bought at any drugstore?
Also, I wanted to tell you all that I have started taking policosanol in
place of my zocor. I did a lot of research on this before I began. You have to be sure that it is pure, no additives. You can go out on the
internet, type in policosaol. I cannot give you a web site specificaly
because I looked at so many and I forgot to write down the sites.
You see my mind is affected, too. :) Anyway, from all that I read ,this is supposed to be as good as statins and there are no side effects as it is all natural, from sugar cane wax. So if it doesn't help, there is no harm done. I had to buy mine at a vitamin and herb store. I couldn't
find any drug stores in my area that carried it yet.
Thx again,
Kathy

Re: Policosanol - reply for Kathy

Hi Kathy,

The other benefit of Policosanol is it's antiplatelet effects. Some take Policosanol and complain it doesn't lower their cholesterol. Well, that's a GOOD thing, because cholesterol is not the problem. The Problem is oxidized LDL.

Things that create "free radicals" and oxidized LDL... Smoking, high blood sugar levels (diabetes), stress... Risk factors that damage the "endothelium" include elevated levels of homocysteine, blood sugar, insulin, cortisol (stress hormones), triglycerides, smoking and deficiency in some vitamins, such as C and the B's.

L-Carnitine is available at most drug stores and discound department stores. You can get it cheaper and in larger bottles on-line. I also tried Acetyl L-Carnitine and that worked just as well for me.

policosanol

Postby kacki » Sun Sep 03, 2006 11:09 am

Hi Fran,
Do you take the polycosanol and, if so, how has it worked? I only just started about a week ago and I'm anxious to see the results. By the way, thx, for the info. I don't recall reading about that. I just stopped
taking my zocor about two weeks ago and I'm really new, into all the
vitamins and supplements that a person can take. So any help would greatly be appreciated.
Good luck to all and hope everyone can have, at least, 1/2 of a good
day.
Kathy :)

Hi Kathy,

Re: Do you take the polycosanol and, if so, how has it worked?

No, I don't take polycosanol. I take Dr Graveline's Statin Alternatives:
http://www.spacedoc.net/statin_alternatives.htm
- all except for the aspirin. Aspirin affects my tinnitus (left ear). A good aspirin alternative in grape seed extract.

Also take vit's C & E, good multi and a few others.

Concentrating on preventing inflammation.
