Another Vytorin nightmare

 My wife had taken Zocor for years, then her Dr. switched to Vytorin to get better control over her cholesterol. She started having problems, heart palpitations/heart racing in a few days and then cut back to 1/2 of a 10/20 dose. Then the Dr. was out of town (as this guy often is) and she was feeling better so went back to a full dosage. To make a long story short, she just finshed with a MRI and a Cat Scan and was suspected of having polymyalgia rheumatica and then giant cell arteriosis. She has had severe muscle aches, total loss of energy, headaches, can't lift her arms up to do her hair for very long, etc. All her tests came back fine, except there appears to be a lack of circulation in her upper arms/shoulder areas. Her SED rate is way up (I'm not an expert on this) which is a sure indicator of swelling. She just went to the Chiro this evening, told him the story and he said that he had noticed that her back muscle were swollen the last couple of times she's been in. Looks like we found the culprit by simply typing in 3 words on Google: Vytorin side effects. Now we go visit the head of the clinic to discuss her MRI results since they were not conclusive of giant cell arteriosis. Apparently there are a lot of physicians out there that don't know the problems with statins. It all tends to lend credence to Trudeau's book on the drug company racket: make money and bring new products on line to make more money; who cares what the side effects are. If a patent runs out, figure out a variant to get a new patent and keep the money rolling in. Plus the more side effects you can introduce, the more drugs you can sell to mask those side effects!

Hi Claud,

Sorry your wife is having such a difficult time.
The CPK blood test can come back OK, but there is still muscle damage/toxicity.
Ask her doctor to do a muscle biopsy.
Please read this article that explains the importance of a muscle biopsy:

Dr Phillips is tops when it come to statins and muscles damage.
