Metanx and neurapathy....

Postby catspajamas » Sat Mar 17, 2007 8:34 pm

My vascular specialist wrote me a prescription for metanx....The B vitamins are good for neurapathy...nerve support....I was surprised to see metanx contains the same vitamins as Dr gravelines cholesteral "help"You need a prescription because the folic acid is more than you can get over the counter.( dietary ingredients are L methyfolate 2.8 mg...phridoxal 5-phosphate(b6 ..2.5 mg)...methylcobalamin(b 12) 2 mg..I am hoping it will help more than the benfotiamine......He also gave me a "recipe" for a cream to rub on my "burny-painful feet"....don't laugh..but here it is......get 3 jalapeno peppers and blend them smooth in a blender...mix them with a can of cows udder cream.... Just smear a very minute amount on where its burning..cover with a white sock cause its greasy..I tried it last night when I went to bed and it works....A diabetic doctor concocted this remedy for his diabetic patients.....PS...the L Carnitine gives me diarrhea...I hope it lets up.....

Hi catspajamas

If your L carnitine upsets your bowels, you are taking too much, ease back your dose by 250 or 500 mg. The Polio network of W Australia., who first showed me the need for carnitine, advise this rule of thumb method of ascertaining what you actually need, by increasing dose gradually up to bowel intolerance and then cutting back by one step.

Yes, I *highly* recommend metanx. Also look into Cerefolin, made by Merck, which contains the more absorbable form of Vitamin B6, N-Acetylcysteine, along with vitamin B9 L-methylfolate and vitamin B12 methylcobalamin.

Catspj - please know I am not making fun of you or your doctor, but I sure did have to chuckle at your post! I kept thinking to myself "the jalapeno would have to burn more than the feeling you have now in your feet to make that feeling go away"! 8)

Gosh, it was a vascular doc who I first told about my theory of my leg pain being from Lipitor and he did back me up on it, but never offered any type of meds. He even called me after my vein surgery to tell me THANKS for making him realize statin drugs can cause all these problems. He said after seeing me that he had 3 other patients with the same symptoms and he asked if they were on a statin and said yes. He told them to stop taking it.

I was going to make an appt with him anyways as I am having more vein problems (always in my right lower leg) and wanted him to check it out, so I may ask him about this med you were given.

Please let me/us know if it helps!!!!

Adec; there are two types of Cerefolin - the second type is called Cerefolin with NAC...which one have you tried?

Also, how has the Metanx helped you i.e. improved memory or made your pain/weakness in legs/arms better?

Thanks!

After off zocor for 7 years my muscle'weakness/damage is almost back to normal....I take the metanx for the damaged nerves in my feet.....My old GP even said they used B vitamins during WW11 to help with nerve pain from wounds....he said it may even help them regenerate....I am doing quite well on it..too soon to say much improved....
The peppers and cows udder cream does sound funny..."wouldn't it make your skin burn more?"...but it doesn't ..you just feel a warmth for a few minutes....I can't stand a sock on it though.....it does settle the nerves down and I understand the ones that act up with pn are on the surface so a external cream would help....

Catspj; WOW you have been off a statin for seven years - it will be three years for me this October 28. You are almost back to normal - that is great!!!

I hope and pray that I maybe will continue to improve then as I was not holding out much hope after all this time and still having problems. You made my day with your post - Bless you! :)

Hi Susie,

My mom and aunt had used a bioactive methyl-B vitamin (Cerefolin-like) combination to counteract statin damage. Only because it was very recently that Cerefolin was made available in the US. Currently they both are taking Cerefolin as a prescription. And I believe the greater bioavailability of these vitamins was in part responsible for their almost *miraculous* recoveries. If you search on my message posting history you can read more on their overall statin recovery experiences... as the living embodiment of statin recovery.

Especially the L-Metylfolate alone is great for reversing the nerve/brain toxic damage of lipophilic statins, since it too is capable of crossing the blood brain barrier. It seems lipid soluble statins are usually the ones creating the most serious brain and nerve disorders. They also penetrate muscle cells at a higher degree than water soluble based statins. While something like methyl-B12 (Methylcobalamin) is likely best for damage to muscle tissue, and general mood elevation.

So yeah, I highly recommend, and believe, anyone who especially ever experienced statin-related cognitive impairments or nerve/muscle damage should speak with their doctor about prescribing Cerefolin or Metanx.

Or for anyone reading this without full health coverage wanting to create their own Cerefolin with NAC they'd need:

1. Vitamin B9 L-methylfolate 5.6mg (Currently Source Naturals is able to circumvent the Merck Metafolin patent with their second name revision, MegaFolinic :) ) You can find 800mcg 120caps bottles for $7.50.
2. Vitamin B6 N-Acetylcysteine 600mg (Also called NAC, a form of the amino acid cysteine.)
3. Vitamin B12 Methylcobalamin 2mg

Good luck and good health.

Thanks so much for the info, guys. I see my doctor in 2 weeks. I will ask him about Cerefolin. Anything is worth a try. If he won't give it to me, I will try adec's formula.
