Toes starting to drag/feel dizz. Muscle weakness or nerves?

Postby tyyosh » Sun Dec 16, 2007 12:55 pm

Every day, new weakness seems to appear even after 2 weeks off the drug. In the last couple of days, my toes are dragging unless I pick the foot up, my head feels weaker, and I am a bit dizzy.

Based on experiences here, does this sound like neurological, or can it be muscle weakness? I had an EMG and nerve conduction test 5 days ago that showed nothing. Will call neurologist Monday.
Thank you

Ty: This sounds like muscle weakness. The muscles in the front of the lower leg are often involved in Statin side effects; this allows the toes to drag or the foot to 'flop' as though you were wearing shoes too large for you. I fell many times due to the dizziness; once directly into our sunken tub. This all sounds typical to me. Please remember it takes TIME to recover and relapses are common (two steps forward; one back), but you do begin to reclaim your health to one degree or another - only TIME will tell how complete your recovery will be. Neurological manifestations are more often evidenced by twitching, burning, or stabbing pains most often in the face, feet, or hands. One of the most frightening symptoms is a weakening of the throat muscles; this can cause GERD, apnea (sleep disturbance), gasping for air during sleep, or difficulty swallowing; I have had all these experiences (now gone for the most part). Keep positive and keep taking the supplements.

Regards,

Brooks

Brooks, thanks for the encouragement. Does this show up in any kind of muscle test? Biopsy? (CK levels are normal for me)

Our experience tells us that Statin damage can occur without CK evidence. The following link will help I think:

As always, remove the * before you link.

Uh oh, should have mentioned, I have developed a few twitches here and there when trying to sleep or relax, and my arm muscles feel like they are "irritated" - can't explain the feeling really but it is not tight, just feeling like from the inside it needs to be calmed down. Any thoughts?

Muscle twitches are very common, Ty. It's all part of the same problem.

OK maybe it is in my head, but every time I wake up something seems weaker. Now, it "feels" like it is harder to take breaths. Of course, once that's in your head, it is hard to let go of it.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Also, let's say it's real. Does anyone know where one goes and gets those breathing helpers (BIPAP or something like that)?
