Does it cause permanent muscle damage?

Postby Fern » Fri Oct 21, 2005 8:59 pm

Hi,
It was with great interest that I read your article about cholesterol. I took Crestor and I am still having muscle aches and pains though I quit taking it in February.

I wish I would have had the chance to read this before I started ever taking the drug. Does Crestor cause permanent muscle damage?

Thank you for such a great article, I am going to reccomend that my doctor read it.
thankyou

I can't tell you if it will be perminent, but I only took a 10mg dose of Crestor for a total of 35 days. I stopped in Feb. 2004. My myopathy and myalgia, continue to worsen, despite recommended treatment options. I am currently testing natural anabolic steriods to see if that will help. A good web site to look at is my doctors web site. "www.impostertrial.com". It is maintained by Dr. Paul Phillips at Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, CA. I'm not sure that anyone has the answers right now. If anyone has any ideas, it's probably AstraZeneca, and they aren't offering any information to help people that are affected with this problem. I personally have met dozens of people who have experienced muscle pain/spasms/cramps after taking Crestor, and due to knowing of my problems, they stopped taking it in time to prevent any perminent damage. Many others are not so fortunate.

mass muscle deterioration and painful body

Postby Chantelle » Sat Jan 02, 2010 9:49 pm

I started taking this Crestor 5 mg May 2005 . I was 146 lbs at the time
I dropped 20 lbs in 2 weeks, another 10 in a very short time. Then 5 more pounds, and weigh 107 lbs now.. It causes malaborption, maldigestion so no matter how much you eat it never goes on the body! I look skeletal.
No statins after Nov 2005 and the damage appears to be permanent.
Not only that but the body pain gets worse even years after the statins are not being taken. If you had arthritis before then you will get rhuematiod arthritis and then it flares up and you hurt all the time!
I cant bleive that Astra Xeneca weasled their ass out of paying for this " death sentence"
that imposed on several thousands of ruined lives!
Is there currently any CANADIAN LAWYERS THAT ARE SUEING ASTRA ZENECA) AND ACTULLY WINNING ANY CRESTOR CASES?
( not only is my poor body ruined but my husband left me as well as I look so pitiful..CRESTOR RUINED MY WHOLE LIFE!!

Chantelle, I'm a Crestor victim. Please don"t give up hope. It's taken me three years but I can say i've had almost a complete recovery. You can read all my posts on my profile. I will be writing a three year review on my history soon. None of what I did is secret, I tried everything the kind people on this forum suggested.

There is plenty of blame to go around regarding statin damage. I Tried not to get hung up on that. I try to stay positive, it's hard sometimes it helps me though.

Best to you, Craig

Oh Hi UncleB (was that he right name)
I see that you are positive and thats good. I can t find the "profile" that you say that helped you get half normal after a long time..How do I get the information on rebuildiing the body? Please give me more info on accessing this info..I am desperate..
Ty again..Hope to hear from you soon..
I just launched a huge complaint against my general practitioner yesterday as he didnt help me at all and he blocked me from getting any help. I have been unemployed and getting worse ( as the symptoms have changed over time) and he didnt give it the time of day.. I am trying to file a malpractice suit against him as he never ever tried to help ..he was very prepared to just watch me die..
Once the Crestor was given to me he was trying to hide that fact also..I sicced the College of Physicians after him.

Chantelle, What supplement program are you on? What symptoms do you have now and in the past? What medical help have you sought out? Have you read the posts of the members of this Forum from the very beginning of this sight? All we is our experience strength and hope to share. Most doctors are less informed about statin damage than we are. Most of the information they get is from the pharm. companies.
You can access profiles of members at the bottom of each post. I read as many as I could and tried what worked for others. I also found a Dr. that had some knowledge in statin drug damage, not easy to find, by the way. I will try to post an update on my recovery soon.
Best to you, Craig

!

Postby Chantelle » Fri Jan 08, 2010 8:53 am

I see that someone here has replied that there are supplements that will rebuild the damaged tissue of the body as a side effect of statins.
I would really be interested in knowing which ones , what dosage and how he derived at this, Heck if it works thats the main thing .
Since May 2005 when I first started taking statins to November 2005) (when I then took myself off as the mass muscle damage -plus by then 3o lbs or so drop in weight was really ugly saggy visible as well as the excruciating
body pain) this doctor that put me on statins didnt do anything for me aside from watch the dilemna.!
Death row I call it!
He did some blood work and some ultrasounds and when nothing showed up he could care less.I had to almost beg him to send me to my old gastroenterologist and then the gastroenterologist didnt know what was wrong either ( he found a few abnormal things such as enlarged gall gladder and he said there was bacteria surrounding the pancreas but as well, he turned his back on me , took the lazy mans way out as he appeared not to be interested in something this bizarre!) he, then ( assuming it must be the liver?) referred me to a hepatologist who examined the liver..Then liver was okay so then the hepatologist was at a lose too.. So then back to my old doctor I was sent ( now the waiting period between the old gastoenterologist and the hepatologist was "1 year" of more suffering in which time new symptoms arose. Of course the referring doctor who was my regular doctor didnt tell the specialists the whole story on my symptoms he just touched on what he thought they could look at and not ever mentioned that I was healthy prior to the Crestor.
The hepatologist had me seen by a psychiatrist..HMM that ought to solve the malabosorption, maldigestion nausea, inbility to gain weight and general overall not well feeling! problem !!!!!Right!
Well once the my so called horse doctor found out that the specialists didnt know what was "all" wrong with me the doctor then commenced in arguing and insulting me and said that I had severe psychological problems financial problems domestic problems etc and thats what caused all of this.! (Isnt that amazing!.?) this all he said..he said that he wouldnt refer me to amy further specialist as it was a waste of time and that there was nothing at all showing up and that was that!
I then found a new general practitioner recently and the old doctor wont send my medical records over to the new doctor for follow up and my new doctor was going to send me for a proper potential diagnosis to a known clinic 3000 miles way, As far as this old FIRED doctor is concerned he isnt sending my files to anyone!
The College of Physicians say that it will take them awhile to get the medical reports ( upon my trying every legal way to get them for near a year)..I have been looking for a doctor for 4 years and 'finally "
found one and this is what has happened . This new doctor is new here and he may not be here long as the pay here isnt the best in this province and he was prepared to refer me to proper clinic in which they specialize in this gastroenterology. but we still ned the medical records..
. NOW isnt this good care? Why the old doctor wont release the medical records we dont know but can just imagine..And better yet is the College of Physicians are having a big paperchase in obtaining them..It appears that the foreign doctor has more say than his so called governing body! ( a.k.a. known as his boss) PS I had gone to a naturopath in 2007 and he helped me with ideas for supplements other wise I woudnt be here to type this upon losing approx 45 permanent pounds. Any suggestions welcomed.. desperate

CHANTELLE
FIRST PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING LINK TO YOU DOCTOR! you suffer from mitochondrial disorders caused by the statins:

then contact this guy and ask for a referral in your area:

many pediatritions will have some experience in mito disorders and are a better bet to recognise your symptoms

the exact suppliments that will work for you is hard to say because it depends on what mutations have occured

but the following is a good beginning:

also if you can eat fats and protean get away from low fat/ low cholesterol diets...eat eggs, butter, whole milk, cheese, fish, poultry, red meat, liver is good, green veggies, limit sugars, potatoes, white rice . google the stone age diet.
some mito disorders cause an inability to digest fats ...

go to this site and find which list of symptoms best fits:
