Question Regarding Negative Side Effects of Statin Drugs

Postby JIMNSC » Sat Dec 02, 2006 10:15 am

Like many others I am taking my second statin drug because the first one got the best of me. After taking the second one for 4 months some (but not all) of the same side effects are cropping up all over again. I am a member of a family of four and all of us were blessed with high cholesterol.

Here is my question.

Are families like mine more prone to negative side effects or does that not make any difference?

Any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated as this just came up in my thoughts after 6+ years of using statin drugs.

My father had borderline high cholesterol and had a TGA on Mecacor. I had borderline high cholesterol and had lots of side effects, first from Zocor and later from the non-statin Zetia. My opinion now is that my body sets my cholesterol higher than average for some good reason, and I am going to respect that.
