Fran or anybody else, what are your thoughts on taking zetia for its actual cholesterol lowering along with the statin alternatives for inflammation.

For what it's worth, I got my statin damage from Zocor and then, several months later, I had a major relapse right after I started taking Zetia. I wouldn't touch a cholesterol reducer again if the cholesterol was starting to ooze out of my pores.

Hi 'baseballgirl',

Lowering cholesterol is NOT the issue... the primary concern is controlling 'inflammation'. The only good aspect of statins is that they control inflammation, but the down side is all the nasty adverse effects, some permanent. Zetia, a non-statin, doesn't even have the benefit of controlling inflammation.

My mother-in-law's doctor insisted she try Zetia, after she experienced side effects to Lipitor and Zocor. Her ankles hurt so bad she could hardly walk. Her Dr said she'd developed arthritis in her ankles and referred her to a specialist. I told her to stop the Zetia to see if the pain went away. Mom did stop Zetia and no more ankle pain.
