Ispaghula Husk (Psyllium)

Postby Brigand » Sat Aug 26, 2006 4:34 am

Hi All

Whilst researching on the internet I came across an article which claimed that Ispaghula Husk, also known as Psyllium, is "almost as effective as statins" in the treatment of high cholesterol. Does anybody have personal knowledge of this which they can share with us?

I keep seeing that too but it blows me up so bad I can't take it. I take Citrucel but mainly just to keep things "moving".

Possibly similar effect to oat bran. I guess it absorbs some cholesterol in the gut and escorts it out. Probably works best taken with meals. Anyway, I'm swinging over into the "cholesterol is not the problem" camp, so I'm not joining the fiber crowd. It's an 81 mg aspirin, fish oil, etc. for me.
