zocor and confusion

Postby samfreddyc » Fri Mar 17, 2006 12:27 am

anyone taking zocor had mental confusion. last sept i started zocor and by 6 weeks was ready to stop driving because i scared myself. i was not watching the road, hard to keep my mind on driving. hard to say what my wife saw and didnt speak up because she was worried i would get upset. i took statins from 94 to 01, can not say what ones i have been on but have noticed that in that time my memorys are not sharp like before or after. i had a heart attack in march 93 with triple bypass and passed it off as being from the attack. now i am thinking maybe not. after 6 weeks i quit and i feel much more in control of my mental state.

Hi samfreddyc,

Please read Dr Graveline's article about Zocor.
There are several accounts of those experiencing memory loss and confusion.
And it's not just Zocor, all statins can cause cognitive decline.

Zocor and confusion

Postby Toni » Fri Jul 21, 2006 2:21 pm

I am a 47 year old female. I have had high cholesterol for 10 years anywhere between 270-370. I am not a heavy person and have no genetic background of high cholesterol in my family history. I have Lupus also. I started to take Zocor about 4 months ago and my memory went out the window to the point people make fun of me. I get scared because I can't remember where I parked the car or what it looks like if I am using someone elses, even though I have driven it for weeks. I got in an argument at the bank because I thought the lady gave me too much money when I had written the slip out only 5 minutes earlier for the amount she gave me. I can't even state my point with people on any topic because even though it doesn't sound right to me I can't remember clearly enough to prove my point. I reported this to my doctor over 2 months ago and he said he may send me to a neurologist if it gets worse. I have a dull headache all the time and some little sharp pains. I have taken myself off the drug.
I wonder if anyone has experienced hair loss? Lupus has always caused me hair loss when I was in a stressful situation but I have never gone bald before. Now I have a bald spot the size of a nickle and my hair loss is still continuing.
Will, I get better?

Hi Toni & Welcome to the Forum,

I'm at a loss for words as to why a doctor would prescribe statins for
someone that has Lupus & has no family history of heart disease,
regardless of their cholesterol levels.

When your cholesterol levels are: 270-370
Do you know your levels of... ?
HDL
LDL
Triglycerides

Please read these articles by Dr Graveline:
"Hair Loss & Statins"
http://www.spacedoc.net/statins_hair_loss.html

"Statin Induced Short Term Memory Loss"
http://www.spacedoc.net/short_term_memory_loss.html

"Statin Alternatives"

Also search this Forum for "hair loss". There are several other reports
of hair loss, and also numerous reports of memory loss.
