Niaspan vs. Niacor

Postby aeroguy » Tue Feb 23, 2010 9:52 pm

After taking Niaspan ER (extended release) 500 mg every other day for a month, I had to stop due to the utter havoc it wreaked on my digestive system from top to bottom.

Plus, the rapid heartbeats 24/7 were something I never got used to. Not to mention the insomnia.

I see there's an immediate release (IR) prescription drug called Niacor that also comes in 500 mg.

Has anyone had any experience with Niacor? Especially if you had to stop taking Niaspan for any reason. The side effects listed for both are pretty much identical.

Please disregard my question.

I just went to the website of my health insurer, and they do not cover prescriptions for Niacor.
