Benzene warning

Postby Brian C. » Wed Jun 17, 2009 6:13 am

Just discovered that benzene can be particularly harmful to mitochondrial DNA.

For several years now I have been taking Robitussin daily (to help with my chronic thick mucous problem) as well as several grams of ascorbate.
Robitussin contains sodium benzoate which can react with ascorbic acid to release free benzene. So although I do not drink sodas I may very well have been inadvertently exacerbating my condition.

The lesson I have learned is ALWAYS RTFL!

Be warned folks.
