Are CT Scans Too Dangerous for Us?

Postby epfleger » Thu Apr 02, 2009 5:20 pm

I have been advised by my pulmonologist to get a CT scan to help further diagnose breathing and back problems that I have as a result of statins (I no longer have any doubt about this). I have gone through all the tests: 3 x-rays (read by three different docs), spirometry and a full-blown pulmonary function test. All negative. Yet my shortness of breath remains and my back problems (perhaps related to my breathing problems) seem to be getting worse.

Given that statins damage us at the mitochondria level which may involve DNA mutations, would any of you hesitate to get a full chest CT scan? It seems reasonable to me that a CT scan could exacerbate already comprised DNA.

Keep in mind that a CT scan delivers about 45 mSv of radiation, while a chest x-ray delivers about 0.02 mSv.

Your thoughts are most appreciated.
