statin drugs

The main reason why statin drug side effects are considered rare is that doctors are hesitant to report any suspected statin drug side effects to the FDA because they have a hard time proving that a statin drug caused the side effects and they become overloaded with paperwork, etc. I asked my doctor if he had reported my problems to FDA and that was his reponse. Also, he said, he had reported a drug problem to the FDA quite awhile ago and does not want to do it again. That's the problem in a nutshell.

Most of the data on side effects, as I understand it, comes from clinical trials which are probably of too short duration to capture anywhere near the full extent of ultimate adverse reactions. I always take clinical trial results with a grain of salt anyhow, as I always suspect manipulation.
