statin drugs

Postby gotts1936 » Fri Sep 05, 2008 2:30 pm

Cathy, I do not know of any Dr. Golomb's recommendations for pain, but I use the standard suppliments for mitochrondria damaged muscles. They are Coq10, Carnitine an Lipoic acid. I stopped using Lovastatin about two years ago. I still have pain when sitting down or getting and when I walk. I can only put up with the pain for 30 minutes of walking. I take no drugs for pain. Pain drugs just cover up the problem, but you sound you may be hurting more than me. I think someone on this website may be able to help you. Good luck.

I have no recollection of any regimen (other than CoQ10) mentioned by Dr. Golomb. Below is the web site for the UCSD Statin Study. Also, if you "Google" Beatrice Golomb, you will bring up a variety of other links.

mitochondrial cytopathy

Postby eml256 » Mon Sep 22, 2008 5:56 pm

We assumed statins caused mitochondrial dysfunction and researched therapies aimed at that state. Unfortunately there is no great therapy for mitochondrial dysfunction. One article, accessible online, does offer some guidance for vitamins and supplements. the only pharmaceutical drug mentioned is prednisone (steroid). we follow many of the recommendations of vitamins and supplements, not the steroid. best of luck toyou.

Cathy,
With my Mitochondrial Myopathy, I am doing quite well, with Lyrica and NADH added to my COQ10 and L-Carnatine... I actually have good months as long as I don't go too crazy and over do things...

Dr. Golomb

Postby jazzbird925 » Sun Oct 05, 2008 7:23 am

Cathy,

There was a recap of a visit with Dr. Golomb posted within the last 6 months or so. The poster wrote up her husband's visit (Bill, I think?) and Dr. Golomb's recommendations/regime for statin side effects recuperation/management.

I searched quickly but cannot locate it - sorry. I think the couple lives in California and am certain that Bill is a Veteran, if that helps.

Keep looking and you will find it. And with luck, the wife/poster will see this.

An alternative is to search for the USC-San Diego Statin Side Effects Study headed by Dr. Golomb. I think the information you want is listed there.

Good luck. This is tough, I know......
