That ugly five letter word ZOCOR

I am about to purchase your book Duane for my mother & I to read.

Having not been put on her Warfarin after an operation my darling mother had a stroke. She had even seen a doctor & although in atrial fibrulation was told that the long weekend was at the end of the week and to wait until after then to start back on her Warfarin! Three days later the stroke occured.

My mother was very lucky and made a fairly good recovery but something was very wrong. After an initial improvement the decline was obvious. It became so bad that I was slowly watching my beautiful mother dying. Dad became her carer as she couldn't even take her own medication let alone remember taking it. On one ocasion she was able to prepare a meal for Dad she gave him his dessert before he had eaten his main meal! I knew that something had to be done and I spent many long hours in front of my computer trying to find anything to do with Mum's condition. It was Mum's Chemist that raised some concern about the Zocor. The specialist had given Mum this medication upon discharging her from hospital after the stroke. She had been on the Zocor for a year. I was horrified to read all the material about this drug and after giving all the info that had been printed to Mum's doctor we were told that it couldn't possibly be the Zocor.

Mum stopped taking the Zocor and before long she was back in the land of the living. Now we were faced with another problem as she had lost the complete use of her arms and was in agonising pain day and night. The first treatment of cortisone didn't help with the second dose relieving some of the pain for only about a week. Massage was tried but aggravated her condition.

I am so cranky that I nearly lost my best friend & mother and cannot believe the number of people I've met who are taking this drug. In fact, my doctor has the name Lipitor on his desk. I cannot tell you how it makes me feel just looking at it.

Many thanks for your wonderful and precious work and most importantly for giving my mother back to me.

warm regards
Megan

Not surprised:

The section in SpaceDoc's book discussing the mechanism wherein statins, and particularly lipophilic statins, interfere with the brain's production of its essential synaptogenic material, cholesterol, should be a huge red flag for anyone considering dosing with a statin. :!:

Note: A friend talked into taking Zocor began experiencing atrial fibrilation within weeks of beginning the therapy. Since he was reticent to quit the therapy because of his faith in his doctor, I gave him the information concerning statins and ubiquinone depletion. He began dosing on 300mg of CoQ10 each day and after a few weeks his doctor could find no more evidence of the heart-beat irregularity. :?
