A new neuroprotective treatment?

Postby Brian C. » Sat Jun 07, 2008 4:34 am

The antibiotic Minocycline is currently being evaluated for the treatment of stroke damage. In this short article retired neurosurgeon Dr. Larry McCleary says : "It has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in animal models of multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson disease, Huntington disease and ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). The mechanisms responsible for the death of nerve cells in these diseases share many similarities with cell death pathways in stroke."
