Keep your hand on your wallet!

Postby cjbrooksjc » Fri Jan 25, 2008 6:51 pm

I received the following advise once in New Orleans: "Keep your hand on your wallet". I would advise anyone buying Rx brand name drugs to do the same: Per 100 tabs, the following is a snapshot of drug price increases set by major American drug companies from 1075 to 2005 rounded to the nearest $:

Lanoxin .25Mg sold in 1975 for $1.00 and in 2005 for $25.00
Lasix 40 Mg sold in 1975 for $9.00 and in 2005 for $39.00
Premarin 1.25 Mg sold in 1975 for $7.00 and in 2005 for $141.00
Valium 5Mg sold in 1975 for $9.00 and in 2005 for $194.00

That's about three times the national inflation rate during the same time period, KA-CHING!

More like this at: *http://www.peoplespharmacy.org/index.asp It's an interesting site (though not dedicated to Statins) when you have a chance to peruse.

Thank God the insurance I have required generic where one is avaliable, to me that means they are safer and cheaper. The drug companies have learned there is a ton of money out there to be made and they are going for it.

It is just a crying shame that some people have to choose between eating that month or buying the drugs they need to keep them alive.

CatMom2: Precisely! Stocks and pillories, public flogging, tar and feathering, ALL seem reasonable consequences of such behavior by people in a position of public trust!
