Any experience with Policosanols?

Postby garlicprincess » Thu May 25, 2006 8:16 am

Hi - does anyone have any experience with Policosanols?

Reading conflicting reports from studies and don't want to add a new supplement that may end up on the "toxic" list.

Thanks,
Sarah

Re: does anyone have any experience with Policosanols?

Policosanol is supposed to lower LDL and raise HDL cholesterol. Policosanol
also has favorable effects on intermittent claudication (leg pain caused by
inadequite blood supply), possibly due to its effects on platelet aggregation
(coagulation) and endothelial function (blood vessel dilation).

So although Policosanol may not lower someone's LDL or raise their HDL, it
does appear to possess other attributes.

I also tried Policosanol and it did not work, however, I have been trying a Chinese mushroom, Cordyceps and in three weeks it dropped my cholesterol from 266 to 235. Research on the internet also claims that it raises the good cholesterol. I will know when I get my next full blown bloodwork.

Some additional info about Cordyceps:

Warnings:
* Use with caution if you have diabetes, as Cordyceps Sinensis can lower blood sugar
